We're always looking for new members - come and join the band!

To hear what we sound like, click the links for two of our rhythms on the CD page.

If you would like to get involved, or have us perform at your event, do please contact us or come along to a rehearsal session (see diary dates for when and where, and for where you can see us performing soon).

We are a community band, welcoming local residents of all ages, with or without any previous experience or skills in making music. An ability to read music is not necessary and all musical instruments are supplied; all you need is a sense of rhythm.
We each pay a weekly subscription, with a lower rate for junior and unwaged members.

We perform at a variety of events in Blackpool and across the North-West of England, including many school and community workshops.
We have a steering group, to look after the day to day running of the band and to guide its development.

We formed early in 2000 as Blackpool's first Community School of Samba, with funding assistance from Blackpool Challenge Partnership, Blackpool Borough Council and Blackpool Town Centre Forum Ltd. We have since received financial support from the North West Arts Board, and Grassroots, Community Foundation for Lancashire, in 2010.

We have long known intuitively about the health benefits of drumming, but now it's official (and a compelling reason for you to join the band!):
Research by the Royal College of Music has found that drumming has a positive impact on mental health, with a 10-week programme of group drumming reducing depression by as much as 38% and anxiety by 20%. To read the full article, please click here.

What people have said about Poco Loco:

"Poco Loco performed at Highbury Stadium for a community event and were fantastic. They entertained the crowd with some superb samba sounds which went down a treat with all ages.
I would recommend them to any organisation looking to put on a show and we will be booking them again for future club events.
From start to finish they were a pleasure to work with and proved great value for money."
- Martin Booker, Head of Commercial, Fleetwood Town Football Club.

"Poco Loco's infectious sound, vibrant samba beat, colourful costumes and professional approach were one of the highlights of Poulton Gala. They bring real excitement to any party and we look forward to them coming back!"
- John Bailie, Poulton-Le Fylde Gala team.

"Poco Loco gave a fabulous performance for us during the UK Corporate Games Grand Parade of Athletes. The whole band were bright, enthusiastic and terrific musicians who really lit up our flagship event. We would be happy to recommend them to others and we will hopefully get the chance to work with them again in the future."
- Ben Sedgemore, Games Director

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your team for the excellent entertainment you provided for the Olympic torch relay. A quote from the event organiser:
ĎJust to say thanks a million for our amazing stay and party. The band went down a treat.í
It was Blackpoolís opportunity to shine as the torch proceeded across the country and as the next Olympics is in Brazil what better way than to have a samba band perform. This was kept a secret from the event until the night and the impact it had was incredible as you could see from the people dancing along to the beat of Poco Loco.
A great ambassador for Blackpool, Hilton Blackpool, and we will not hesitate to recommend you for any future events."
- Andy Ruddle, Food and Beverage Manager, Hilton Blackpool

"It was the Family Fun Day in St. Johnís Square in aid of the Friends of St. Johnís School, July 7th 2012. The sunís shining Ė and whatís that sound? Such a compelling beat, full of life and fun Ė itís Poco Loco! Look at the crowds enjoying the samba rhythms, moving to the beat. They really pulled in the crowds, and after a short break they were back again, this time a larger crowd gathered.
We were really impressed by how professional they were, from the booking process right up to the end of the performance. What a happy bunch! Thank you, Poco Loco."
- Gill Ward, Friends of St John's School Fun Day 2012

"Local Samba band Poco Loco helped us to celebrate in style. At the end of a creative week celebrating Rio de Janerio, the children and staff at Norbreck Academy donned their headdresses and took part in an exciting carnival. Poco Loco provided fantastic music which really captured the theme. Their interaction with the children was superb and many children had the opportunity to play alongside the band. It was a wonderful sight to see the children dancing back to their classrooms following the band around the school. At the end of the day the parents enjoyed a treat too when Poco Loco performed.
An awesome experience for the children to encounter live, vibrant music of a superb standard!"
- Gill Gower, Norbreck Academy, February 2016

"Poco Loco have brightened our galas for the past few years and we have booked them again for this year. They are reliable, punctual and professional.
Poco Loco are guaranteed to bring a smile to peoples faces with their lively, sunny music."
- Leanne Ball, Treasurer, Hambleton Gala Committee, March 2016
